The International System of Units (SI), commonly known as the metric system, is the international standard for measurement. The SI plays an essential role in international commerce and is commonly used in scientific and technological research and development. This cache is part of the SI geoart that allows you to learn about the SI units. Visit the introduction cache to learn more about this geoart.
Temperature: kelvin (K)
The kelvin is the SI base unit of temperature.
0K, the zero point on the Kelvin scale or absolute zero, is the lowest limit of the thermodynamic scale, at which all thermal motion ceases.
1K has been defined to be the fraction 1/273.16 of the thermodynamic temperature of the triple point of water. In other words, the triple point of water is exactly 273.16K.
Starting 20 May 2019, the kelvin is redefined by taking the fixed numerical value of the Boltzmann constant to be 1.380649×10-23 J/K.
Color temperature
The color temperature of a light source is the temperature of an ideal black-body radiator that radiates light of a color comparable to that of the light source. Kelvin is often used as a unit of color temperature.
Color temperatures over 5000K are called cool colors and appear blueish. Lower color temperatures (2700K-3000K) are called warm colors and appear yellowish. Warm lighting actually has a cooler temperature. Are you confused yet?
This Geocache
@TheTucsonHeat was strong on International Geocaching Day 2015, but yoursunny
still went out and found a geocache. What’s the observed high temperature in kelvin on that day, according to National Weather Service KTUS records? Multiply by 2, add 273, and round to an integer to get ABC.
What’s THIS color temperature? Divide by 8, add 2, and round to an integer to get DEF.
Final coordinates: N 39° 08.ABC W 077° 08.DEF
You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.
Cache container is a baby-nano with tiny log sheet. A pair of tweezers is mandatory for log retrieval. To conserve space, please omit the date and write the first two letters of your username only.
Some hides are located along a road without sidewalk. For your safety, please walk on the grass out of the car lanes, and avoid going at night without wearing a safety vest.
