How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

1 litre lock&lock box near the shore of the lake in Old Warden Park, on a woodland walk near Old Warden airfield, requiring previous collection of codes from 8 other caches in the "Uniquely Shuttleworth" series

The cache is NOT at the coordinates given, but it's within 100m.
Access to the woodland walk is by foot only - there are two gates, a couple of hundred metres west of the vehicle entrance to the Shuttleworth Collection (waypoint P3 - not available on air display days).

This is the bonus for our series celebrating the aircraft of the Shuttleworth Collection at Old Warden.
In order to find it, you'll need to collect the letter codes from the caches in the series (see below), and use them to work out the coordinate in the following:

N52 05.(H-B)(M-S)(B-L)
W000 19.(M-L)(B+1-L)(C)

The woodland walk is adjacent to the Swiss Garden, and close to the Falconry Centre and (free) children's playground. You'll probably hear squawking from the many peacocks which live in the Swiss Garden!

Parking in Old Warden village, at Old Warden Church, along (some) verges, or at the Collection if you visit there.
Parking will be difficult on display days (see the website (visit link) ).
From the website (July 2012): "At certain times during the year [e.g. school holidays] there is a charge for car parking. £3 per car £7 MPV/Mini bus and £10 per Bus or Coach, this can be redeemed against Collection admission or a hot meal in the restaurant"

Due to the tree cover we had trouble getting a precise position, so the final coordinate might not be spot on for you.

#################################################

Here's how we'd suggest doing the series ...

* Park at the church (waypoint P1);
* GC1NHNE (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - Sea Hurricane
* [maybe digress to GC1NME4 "Orange Tree 2" (visit link) , since you're so close];
* GC1PGGH (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - SE5a
* waypoint P2, then 200m along the road, past the pub to waypoint J2;
* GC1PGG5 (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - Martlet
* waypoint J3, then 600m along the road to waypoint P4;
* GC1PTAD (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - Comet
* GC1MPY7 (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - Lysander
* GC1MPXR (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - Bleriot
* waypoint J1, then 500m to waypoint P3;
* [we'd have some tea in the cafe and a look around the Collection :-) ]
* 150m along the road to waypoint G1;
* GC1Q0ME (visit link) Uniquely Shuttleworth - Bonus
* waypoint G2.

So far that's about 6km.

Unfortunately (we really wanted to make it an off-road loop) this leaves you another 1500m of road - not particularly busy, but narrow and fast - to get back to P1, so you might prefer to do the series in two or more sections.
