Dalmacija: A geocache series
Dalmatia has existed for some 2000 years and was a part of then Illyria and has survived over the last 2000 years among many different empires and rulers.
In addition to the famous dog breed "Dalmatians" who come from this area, Dalmatia is best known for its rugged and karstified coastal landscape. Around 1000 islands, several national parks and around 1200 kilometers of coastline describe Dalmatia, which stretches from Velebit with its famous tunnel "Sveti Rok" to Dubrovnik. If the "Bura" blows from the north, this strongest wind in the world with up to 250km / h can even force authorities to close the entire highway.
Although Dalmatia has a very long cultural tradition and was already known in antiquity for its wild warriors, but was over all centuries - almost to this day - mainly due to the barren and stony soil always a relatively poor area and a classic emigration country. Formerly used as auxiliary troops by Greeks, Romans, Venetians and Austrians, later the inhabitants became emigrants to America, Argentina, Chile, Australia and New Zealand, and then later to Germany, Austria and Switzerland after World War II.
One of the best part of Dalmatia is the culinary art: puff-thin Dalmatian prosciutto, yellow sheep's cheese and salted anchovies, a few black olives, home-baked white bread, salad of sun-ripened tomatoes and even wine that has been pressed, diluted with water. Beef, pork and lamb steaks are traditionally cooked in Dalmatia on the grid above the open charcoal fire. In the conobas of Central and Southern Dalmatia you can find a specialty: Fish and meat, preferably lamb, are cooked together with potatoes and vegetables under a charcoal heat overflowed metal bell, the peka.

This Cache: A King and a monastery
[EN]
Here is a great viewpoint over the valley of Krka and the monastery Visovac, located exactly between Roški slap and Skradinski buk. It is in the midst of the eponymous lake and is one of the most important natural and cultural treasures of the Republic of Croatia. Since 1445 it is continuously used as monastery by the Franciscans of the merciful Mother of God and the Church of Our Lady Visovac. The Franciscan monastery has an important archaeological collection, a collection of historical chasubles and a rich library with ancient manuscripts, books and incunabula, including an edition of Aesop's Fables from the 15th century. Because of centuries of devotion to Our Lady of Visovac is also known as Our Lady Island.
