Geocache Description:

A cache at the northern end of the lovely Hincaster Trailway: a multi-user path being developed along the old railway line. A pleasant short walk can be had, and extended on the quiet lanes into a circular route to include the Horsepath on the old canal.

The Hincaster Trailway runs through a lovely wood alongside the West Coast main line for a few hundred metres, before following the disused branch line which left here for Milnthorpe and Arnside.  At one time it was busy carrying coal from Durham to the iron works in Furness, but closed in 1942.  The Trail is being resurfaced and many other improvements are taking place, largely carried out by volunteers.

The 2012 UK Mega Event took place in Cartmel and there was an associated Family Walk event, see: GC3CYW1 for more details. These Trail caches were set for this event and the Mega.  We would like to thank Phil and the Mega team for providing most of the cache containers, and Bridget Pickthall, Secretary of the Hincaster Trailway Group for permission to place them.

This Cache: used to be a 2 part sneaky thing but the micro element hasn't survived, so a simple small to find now. Sign the log then you can head south onto the Trail and enjoy your wander.  Onto no.2
