The most exciting way to learn about the Earth and its processes is to get into the outdoors and experience it first-hand. Visiting an EarthCache site is a great outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy.

What is an EarthCache?
An EarthCache site is a special place that people can visit to learn about a unique geoscience feature or aspect of our Earth. Visitors to EarthCache sites can see how our planet has been shaped by geological processes, how we manage the resources and how scientists gather evidence to learn about the Earth.

As a part of geocaching — an adventure game for Global Positioning System (GPS) users to cache and find locations with actual hidden items — an EarthCache adventure is treasure hunting for the caches that the Earth has stored. EarthCache sites do not use stored containers; their treasure is the lessons people learn about our planet when they visit the site. 

How do I find an EarthCache?
An EarthCache is a type of geocache that is listed on geocaching.com.  You need to visit the geocaching website create a free logon.  Once logged on you can search for EarthCache listings using the various tools available on that site.  The listing provides you the location data for your GPS, some reading materials about the site and a list of educational logging tasks that you need to undertake to complete your experience.

The exciting part is setting to look for those EarthCaches.  Make sure you read the site notes and be prepared for looking for the answers for the educational tasks.  Also ensure that you are fully prepared for being involved in an outdoor activity.

How do I create an EarthCache?
As an EarthCache is a type of geocache, it follows all the geocaching.com rules for placing a cache.  It also has to follow all the Earthcache Guidelines.

One of the best ways to develop your first Earthcache is to go and visit some existing EarthCaches to get a feel for what has been published in the past.  You can also contact the local geoaware reviewer, normally listed as the person who published the EarthCache, to get advice.

GERMAN Earthcache Reviewer Geocoin - Reviewer Only Edition

Die deutschen Earthcachereviewer haben anläßlich des Earthcachedays am 13.10.2013 ihre erste eigene Geocoin in zwei verschiedenen Editionen herausgebracht. Die Shopversion ist in antik silber und diese Ro (ReviewerOnly) in blacknickel. Sie hat eine Auflage von 160 Stück und man kann sie ausschließlich geschenkt bekommen. Ich bin sehr stolz das ich dieses Schmuckstück in meiner Sammlung haben darf, und deshalb wandert diese Coin natürlich auch nicht. Sie steht in meiner Vitrine und hat dort einen angemessenen Ehrenplatz bekommen. Wer mich einmal im Fegefeuer besuchen kommt darf sie sehr gerne discovern, allerdings möchte ich in Eurem Log gerne wissen welches der schönste Earthcache war den Ihr bislang besucht habt. Wenn Ihr mir dann noch ein Photo der Location mit einstellt freue ich mich um so mehr. Ich nehme mir allerdings auch das Recht heraus Logeinträge kommentarlos zu streichen wenn diese kleine Anforderung nicht erfüllt wurde. Wem das nicht gefällt, der sollte einfach von einem Logeintrag Abstand nehmen. Danke. Allen anderen wünsche ich viel Spaß mit dem seltenen Icon, Euer Louis Cifer
