Questa Cache fa parte di un percorso lungo la sponda sinistra del fiume Piave attraverso i luoghi di valore storico/culturale del comune di Ponte di Piave e le immediate vicinanze. L’itinerario può essere affrontato con auto e moto, ma la migliore scelta è farlo in bicicletta e seguire l’ordine dalla numero 1 alla numero 15.

GLI ZATTIERI DEL PIAVE

Per capire l'importanza strategica e viaria del Piave quale arteria di comunicazione tra l'entroterra veneto e Venezia bisogna ricordare che il trasporto del legname, cose, animali e persone avveniva spesso sulle zattere. Esse venivano formate da uomini incaricati detti "ligadori", mentre quelli che le guidavano si chiamavano "zatéri".
Quando i primi raggi del sole, della foresta del Cansiglio sciabolavano la vallata, gli zattieri partivano dal porto di Belluno. In un giorno dovevano percorrere l'arco del Piave fino al porto di Falzè, di fronte al Montello.
Il punto di riferimento, poco prima dell'arrivo, era una enorme masso aggettante di conglomerato posto sulla riva destra del fiume, chiamato la Croda dei Zateri, esistente ancora oggi.
A Falzè gli zattieri di Nervesa ricevevano in consegna le zattere e il loro carico con l'obbligo di condurli fino a Ponte di Piave.
Gli zattieri di Belluno ritornavano a casa a piedi valicando il Passo di Praderadego. Su questa via di ritorno esiste ancora oggi, a Falzè di Piave ed a Soligo, la Via Cal Zattera.
L'ultimo tratto di fluitazione, da Ponte di Piave fino a Venezia avveniva lentamente: il Piave verso la foce scorre placido e già risente il flusso del mare. Le zattere, una ridosso all'altra, venivano legate assieme, perfino quindici o venti per volta, e trascinate lentamente dai cavalli all'alzaia o dal deflusso delle maree, proseguendo il loro viaggio secondo il respiro del mare, finché arrivavano a Venezia e attraccavano alla riva che porta il loro nome: la Riva delle Zattere, dove venivano disfatte ed il legname adoperato per tutti gli usi.

THE "ZATTIERI" OF PIAVE

To understand the strategic importance of the Piave river as artery of communication between Venice and the Venetian hinterland must remember that the transport timber, things, animals and people often took place on the rafts. They were formed by men in charge called "ligadori", while those that drove were called "zatéri."
When the first rays of the sun rise up fromm the forest of Cansiglio along the valley, the rafters leaving from the port of Belluno. On a day they had to take the bow of the Piave to the port of Falzè, in front of the Montello.
The reference point, shortly before arrival, it was a huge boulder jutting out of conglomerate on the right bank of the river, called the Croda dei Zateri, which still exists today.
In Falzè the rafters of Nervesa received over the rafts and their cargo with the obligation to lead them to Ponte di Piave.
The raftmen of Belluno returned home on foot, crossing the Passo di Praderadego. On this way back still exists today, Falzè di Piave and Soligo, the Via Zattieri.
The last stretch of rafting, Ponte di Piave to Venice occurred slowly towards the mouth of the Piave flows peacefully and already feeling the flow of the sea. The rafts, one behind the other, were tied together, even fifteen or twenty at a time, and slowly dragged by horses in alzaia tides or run-off, continuing their journey according to the breath of the sea, until arriving in Venice and docked the bank that bears their name: the Riva of Zattere, where they were undone and the timber used for all purposes.
