TC 2023 Meet & Greet/Maker Magic

Join us for a weekend of excitement! Visit with fellow geocachers and learn more about geocaching on the eve of the Tri-Cities Annual Geocoin Challenge! Bring your family and friends—an excellent event for all ages. 

WHERE: John Dam Plaza

WHEN: Friday, June 23, 2023, 6:00-8:00pm

WHAT: Learn something new, share your experiences, and meet other geocachers. We are all in this together!

  • 6:00-7:00pm ~ Dinner (Enjoy Tumbleweeds Food Truck or bring your dinner. There are plenty of places to grab food around the area.)
     
  • 7:00-8:00pm ~ Come discuss methods of making creative geocaches, learn more about geocache containers, what considerations to consider before submitting a cache, and share your favorite local (or not local) caches. Since we only have one hour, we are going to split the event up into stations. We will have 4 stations. Each station will focus on different aspects of Makers Magic.
     
    • Station 1: Creative Caches
      • What is a creative geocache?
      • How to get your creative mind flowing?
      • Goblindust and Bounce Bounce (PNW geocachers) will be discussing their creative cache ideas and containers.
         
    • Station 2: Geocache Containers (Different Types)
      • What is the best kind of container for the location?
      • Is it durable and weather resistant?
      • How to disguise your cache?
         
    • Station 3: Considerations Before Submitting a Cache
      • Location: Is the location muggle-proof?
      • Location and difficulty
      • Do you need permission to hide it? Is it a private or public location?
      • Geocaching guidelines
        • How far away from other caches
        • Do’s and Don’t
          • Don’t damage property!
          • Stay away from restricted areas.
      • Maintaining the geocache after it is published.
         
    • Station 4:  Cache Making (Supplies provided while the last.)
      • Kids & Teens: Make Your Own Geocache
      • Containers (variety of sizes)
      • Camo Tape
      • Cache labels for outside and inside the container
      • Logbook
      • Swag

At the end of the event, we will raffle off a couple of unique geocaches.
