Welcome to our second CITO of the year, we did think we wouldn't have time for another before summer comes, but here we are, so come along to the Yorkshire in Bloom Gold award winning cemetery , do some gardening and consume some cake.
York Cemetery is a working burial ground, at the same time it provides opportunities for conservation, education, and informal recreation within a protected environment close to York city centre. Working in partnership with the Friends of York Cemetery a number of CITO's have already taken place that have had a real positive impact on this unique space.
Our main tasks on the day will be focused on carrying out routine gardening tasks along the scented walk and butterfly walk areas of the cemetery, including removal of invasive weed species, pruning the area, we can even find you a few brambles if you so desire.
At about 12noon we will stop for lunch. Bring a packed lunch and a flask. It might be an idea to bring a bottle of water and some suncream just in case the sun comes out.
You could also take the opportunity to grab the cemetery traditional, multi, mystery and earth caches whilst you are here.
Important information, please read.
York Cemetery - Showers & Spades CITO
Saturday 2nd June 2018 10:00am - 12:00noon
Firstly if you are planning to come then please log a 'will attend' note, mention how many will be in your group, this is extremely important and will ensure you get any event updates we make.
Meet us at the cemetery gatehouse (entrance on Cemetery Road), for introductions and a brief H&S chat. We will be the ones wearing bright orange. Come and introduce yourself as Geocachers if you've not been before.
We recommend you wear sturdy footwear, as we will be working on uneven ground between gravestones. You can bring your own gardening gloves, the thicker the better! All tools and equipment will be provided (there are gardening gloves available if you forget or don’t have them).
Children are welcome, but must be supervised. No dogs are allowed in the cemetery, apart from registered assistance dogs. Please remember that this is a working cemetery and there will probably be people visiting graves.
Our tasks on the day may change depending on the weather, we will update the listing and make announcements accordingly, please ensure you have logged a 'will attend' to receive these updates.
