Geocache Description:

Cache will take you to a former fortress overlooking Kapan and Voghji Valley.

The cache is located within the walls of Halidzor Fortress.

Halidzor Fortress is located 5km southwest of Kapan. Halidzor was built in the 10th century as a monastery. In the beginning of the 18th century Armenian military commander David Bek turned the ancient monastery into an unassailable fortress and a symbol of many victories.

This 1 km path to Halidzor Fortress starts in the Halidzor district just outside Kapan. The beginning of the hike takes you through a little bit of 'urban hiking' before you venture deep into the forest. This is a trail that villagers have used for centuries to pick greens and herbs. You can also access the fortress by several hiking paths from Vahanavank monastery.

I have written an extensive hint and added a photohint for this one. Please feel very free to use them since unjustified disassembling of the wall is very undesirable.

These six caches were placed during one week at the end of April and beginning of May 2017 around Kapan by nudle_cz with consent and supervision of ARK Armenia whose members and volunteers will also provide necessary maintenance for the caches:

We hope you will like the caches and the places where we have hidden them. Southern Armenia is an amazing region to visit for anyone who likes beautiful and unspoilt nature, mountains, historical sites and friendly people. Share your adventures and opinions with us in the cache logs. Have a good trip!
