Great Detectives: Wimsey, the Sequel Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

The WBs: I was considering re-deployment or transferring ownership on the detectives, as circumstances are unfortunately preventing the maintenance I should be providing. Archiving is the best option, based on the tone of the DNF logs and dwindling interest in caches in the "unknown" category that are not challenge caches. Thanks for playing!

Geocache Description:

Lord Peter Wimsey needed a new home. The puzzle's basically the same (to be fair to those who had solved but not yet found) but the location and container is new (so those who found the old one can also claim here if they wish). NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES. PLEASE PARK RESPONSIBLY.

Location is BIBB (Best if By Bike) (or hiking in) from the parking coordinates. Distance from recommended parking to solved final is approximately 3 miles (and that distance is indicated by the terrain rating and attributes). When parking closer or with chauffeur service, terrain would be 1.5 and the hike distance attribute removed.

That question mark on the map? Not the real coordinates, but just the virtual markers for 2 new Great Detectives and 5 sequels. You'll need to solve the puzzles to discover where the containers are. You can park once, then bike or hike in and get all 7.

Lord Peter Wimsey, an affluent British gentleman detective, was another favorite from the “golden age” of crime fiction, the 1920s and 30s. The writer was Dorothy L. Sayers.

Step 1:

Solve these simple substitution ciphers. All items in a category share the same ciphers, but they change from one category to the next.

Step 2:

Fill in the solution by transferring your SOLVED letters into the formula below. Using the formulation xy-z, x=category, y=answer, z=# of letter in solved answer. (“3a-4,” for example, would be the fourth letter of your answer for 3a, the first ciphertext in the “Trackables & Collectibles” category.)

N 41 17. [3f-1] [4a-5] [4f-9] [2c-3] [1c-4] [4f-9] [1d-8] [2a-4] [2e-5] [1f-16]
W 96 03. [3a-2] [4d-5] [3e-9] [4c-2] [1a-3] [1d-1] [2b-4] [4b-5] [3d-3] [1b-1] [1e-1] [2d-2]

Step 3:

Use the step 2 solution (or your solution from the previous Lord Peter Wimsey puzzle cache) in this chart to determine the (new) final.
