lead you to Gallowhill Caravan and Camping Site,
Kinross.
Once you have parked-up, take
a look around and, head towards the Yorkshire Flag (a white rose on
a pale blue background). There may be more than one Yorkshire flag
being flown so, head for the one that's paired with a Union Jack
Windsock.
What better way to recover
from the madness and mayhem of the Mega Scotland event, than to
join the Yorkshire caching contingent (well, those that haven't
already fled back across the border) for a few beers, some jolly
banter and, a bite to eat. There'll also be an opportunity to get
your hands on one of the few remaining Yorkshire Day 2009 geocoins
(please make note in your log if you'd like to reserve a
coin).
Bring your own drinks and,
anything that you'd like to throw on the barbeque (weather
permitting).
Yorkshire Day
August 1st holds a special
place in Yorkshire's history for, on this day in 1759, soldiers
from Yorkshire regiments who had fought in the battle of Minden, in
Germany, picked white roses from bushes near to the battlefields as
a tribute to their fallen comrades. Since that time the white rose
has become the symbol of Yorkshire and is proudly worn by
Yorkshiremen and women on Yorkshire Day.
It is also a celebration of
Lammas a harvest festival when the first bread was made
from the new corn.
Yorkshire Day was revived in 1975 by the Yorkshire Ridings
Society.
You don't have to be born in
Yorkshire to have pride in or be regarded as "True Yorkshire",
since part of the Yorkshire declaration read throughout the County
on 1st August states; "all persons born therein, or resident
therein, and loyal to the Ridings are Yorkshire men and
women".
The Ridings of Yorkshire are
over 1100 years old, being first
recorded in AD876.
