Der Poppelsdorfer Friedhof erstreckt sich vom Süden Poppelsdorfs aus den Nordhang des Kreuzberg hinauf bis zur Kreuzbergkirche. Der Kreuzberg ist ein Nebengipfel des Venusbergs. Bei der Anlage des Friedhofs 1798 lag er tatsächlich in Poppelsdorf am Fuße des Kreuzbergs. Durch zahlreiche Erweiterungen wuchs er aber im Laufe der Jahrhunderte immer weiter den Hang hinauf.
Aufgrund seines Alters befinden sich auf dem Friedhof zahlreiche aufwändig gestaltete und sehenswerte Grabmäler wie z.B. das
Mausoleum der Familie Soennecken oder der von Joseph Hammerschmidt gestaltete Grabstein
"Letzte Schicht" am Grab von Wilmar Laute. Unter den zahlreichen hier beerdigten prominenten Verstorbenen sind viele Professoren, die in den Poppelsdorfer Instituten der Unversität Bonn gelehrt und geforscht haben, wie z.B.
August Kekulé.
Außerdem macht seine Lage mit einem tollen Ausblick über weite Teile Bonns und einem großen Betand an alten Bäumen den Poppelsdorfer Friedhof zu einem der schönsten Friedhöfe Bonns.

The cemetery of Poppelsdorf extends from the South of Poppelsdorf the Northern flank of the mountain Kreuzberg up to the church Kreuzbergkirche. Kreuzberg is a sub-summit of the mountain Venusberg. When the cemetery was planned in 1798, it actually was in Poppelsdorf at the base of the Kreuzberg. But over the centuries, it grew more and more up the flank.
Due to it's age, there are many lavish and worth seeing graves at the cemetery like the
mausoleum of family Soennecken or the gravestone
"Letzte Schicht" by Joseph Hammerschmidt at the grave of Wilmar Laute. There are many professors having been lecturing and researching at the Poppelsdorf institutes of the university of Bonn among the prominent deceased buried here, like e.g.
August Kekulé.
In addition, it's location with a great view over large parts of Bonn and a large asset of old trees make the cemetery of Poppelsdorf to one the most beautiful cemeteries of Bonn.
