Introduction: The path to Coire Dubh is a great way to get a more dramatic, more demanding, and wilder overview of Rum's Glen Kinloch and Loch Scresort, without having to travel too far into the island's interior.
The location: Beyond a flow control point and two gateposts, to an area of rocks. Continue up to Coire Dubh if you wish, or just admire that view
The route: Take the marked 'Red Path' to the left of the castle (with the sea behind you), passing a cute arched bridge, and swinging south/left to follow a stream up, up, up. It's a great climb and not too far, but you gain a lot of height in a short time, so pace yourself. When the path ends at a water control point, the climb continues on rougher terrain to the cache at 'an obvious spot.'
The terrain: Really very good. Almost all the way there's a great surfaced path. Only the last 80m or so is over rougher ground. Rocks may be slippery, so take care up here.
The name: The cache is on/beyond the 'Red Route' path, as outlined on boards by the Village Hall, where there's also a café and toilets. The shop close by is open at limited times of day.
Please rehide this cache with care as it is in a fairly exposed location and may be seen from some angles. There's lots of cover around, but please do a subtle job if you add any. Thank you.
