Geocache Description:

A few metres from the cache is the old convenience shop at Leira, Tustna. The road you are on when retrieveing the cache is the old main road over the island and across this part of the north-west country. After the new road "680" was built, the commercial centre of Leira was moved approxomately a kilometre away, near the Tustna urban cache.

Gammelbutikken/The old shop - at Leira, Tustna

NORWEGIAN:

Cachen ligger nært den gamle butikken på Tustna. Butikken er for lengst lagt ned. Veien du står på når du henter frem cachen er den gamle hovedveien på Tustna. Her er det ikke mye trafikk lenger og den brukes nå kun av fastboende og noen hyttefolk som har hytte nær den gamle dampskipskaia eller "Leirkaia" som den kalles. Butikken er et klassisk norsk gammelt samvirkelag med Fantomet-klistremerker, politiske plakater i dørene og slitne nedstiftede vegger. Også de gamle logoene og fargene er jo tøffe igjen i dag.

You'll find old shops like this all over Norway. They are either closed because the main transport routes have changed, or because new shops have opened, population has declined or bridges or tunnels have opened and made it easier to travel to other and often bigger shops in neighbouring counties. In Leira's case, the shop has closed because the main road was moved a couple of hundred metres.

The road you are on when retrieving the cache is only used by locals and the odd summer home owner. There are quite a few cabins near the old steam boat quay. One can imagine that people would end up standing outsiden this shop when it was still in business, and talk for hours. Especially on the weekends. It was common to keep a couple of tables outside and serve coffee to customers.

The cache is a "connection box" on transformator near lamp post.
