Hingman & the Travellogram Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Geocache Description:

The cache is placed not too far from the coordinates above but definitely not within the railway area. The cache, at the final coordinates you can check here, contains travel related trading items.

On March 14 1923 the Central Train Station in Gothenburg was seriously damaged by fire.
Georg "Cacce" Hingman, arguably the greatest decreational genius in Swedish art history, then suggested a radical change of the railway area. Hingman proposed an intricate bidirectional system of pedestrian gangways, tunnels and small bridges separating the platforms from the station building, a system described by Hingman in a type of drawing he called "Travellogram". Hingmans idea was that "people will be more happy when they have to look around a while before they go on the train or into the station, trains can look very dangerous and big you know".
The Travellogram
Hingman's "Travellogram" for the Gothenburg Train Station.

The proposed "Travellogram" construction was rather crudely rejected the with the only comment that "an overwhelming number of practical obstacles can easily be identified in this naive suggestion".

This was a hard blow to Hingman and put a definite stop to his promising architectural career. The traumatic experience also made Hingman move on to monumental paintings and pseudoclassic sculpturing, a fundamental transition in Hingmans early years (he was only twelve at the time) and a definite key to understanding Hingmans later straight path to his current status as Swedens most forgotten and uncelebrated artist.

On the topic of Georg "Cacce" Hingman there are some other caches, unfortunately but for good reasons, only in Swedish.
