Evengeline's mission is to travel firstly to France and thence to Nova Scotia. From there she wants to travel south to Louisiana, visiting as many places associated with the 'Grand Derangement' or Expulsion of the Acadians in 1755. Finally, she wants to return home to the start of her journey.
In 1755, British soldiers under the command of Colonel John Winslow took captive 413 men under false pretenses in the church of St. Charles in the Acadian settlement of Grand Pre in Nova Scotia. Along with many others they were forced to forfeit their land and livestock and transported by ship to various destinations along the eastern seaboard of the United States. An epic poem called 'Evangeline' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow tells the story of a young Acadian woman by that name, her seperation from her groom-to-be in the course of the expulsion and her subsequent unrelenting search for him.
It would be nice if she could be photographed at as many places associated with the event as possible. Particularly, Grand Pre in Nova Scotia and St. Martinville in Louisiana. Many other places were arrival points for the deportation ships such as Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia (Williamsburg), The Carolinas, Georgia, coastal Alabama and east Texas. Evangeline carries a list of areas she would like to visit with her.
