About This Item

This trackable made possible by: Donna & Jeff James

Daughters are weird. Children are weird. Humans are weird. I applaud those who take on the risk of having children. It's one of those things you have to remove expectation from because you never know what you're gonna get. "I'm a really active person and I can't wait to have a kid I can be active with," someone might say. Then they have a kid who pretty much hates moving and the outdoors. My parents were definitely the, "Y'all be you" parents and I appreciated that. They were always supportive - even if they did not actively support the choices I made.

One day dad and I were talking and I had confronted him on something small from my childhood and it seemed he had finally perfected, for him at least, a succinct response to this sort of thing, "All parents just try to do what they believe is best and right by their children. Now, whether the child sees it that way is a different story." Reminds me of something I heard from an ancient philsopher as well, "Everyone you meet believes they are doing the right thing." The becomes dangerously recursive very quickly...I think I'm right wne I'm correcting someone who I think is wrong...and they think they're right when they're trying to correct me. Good times.

Yep, humans are weird.

Origins of "hido," K.D., and the road trip

"Hido" was a greeting my mother, Kathy Bruce started saying in the mid-nineties. It was a consolidation of, "Hi, how are you doing?" into one word. Like Namaste for Enlgish speakers.

Mom's middle initial was "D". Katie was the name of her grandmother (her mom's mom). First initial plus middile initial, phonetically results in the same sound.

The Hido K.D. Road Trip is a tribute to my mother who passed away March 1st, 2019. She loved road trips and traveling. These trackables let her keep doing so for however long they last..
