Congratulations! You found a Smokey Bear trackable!
For 75 years, Smokey Bear has protected America’s forests from unwanted, human-caused wildfires. Smokey – one of the most-loved issue ambassadors of our time – and his signature phrase, “Only you can prevent wildfires,” are truly iconic.
Though Smokey has been essential to the reduction of wildfires over the last 75 years, he still needs help. Even today, nearly 9 out of 10 wildfires nationwide are caused by people. In fact, his message is even more relevant today as people are living closer and closer to wildlands and more frequently choosing outdoor recreation activities. Smokey may be 75, but he’s still going strong and his message is more important now than ever before.
Only YOU can prevent wildfires, and here’s how! While at home or on camping trips, follow these important safety tips:
- Campfire Safety
- Equipment Use and Maintenance
- Backyard Debris Burning
This Smokey Bear trackable is provided by the Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention campaign, which is administered by the
USDA Forest Service, the
National Association of State Foresters and the
Ad Council. Created in 1944, it is the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history, educating generations of Americans about their role in preventing wildfires. Learn more at

Smokey the Bear cub was found after a forest fire near Capitan, NM. He has since become the icon for the preventing forest fires campaign. This year, 2019, we are celebrating his 75th year. My trackable, Smokey NM, is being transported from my forest home in central NM to his home town of Capitan, NM to begin his journey. He would like to visit tall trees of the world and see new forests grown up from past forest fires. I wonder how many times he will revisit New Mexico, USA?
Smokey the Bear cub was found after a forest fire near Capitan, NM. He has since become the icon for the preventing forest fires campaign. This year, 2019, we are celebrating his 75th year. Smokey NM had his picture taken during a late spring (May 9, 2019) snow fall. Snows such as this help reduce the risk of forest fires. Please help prevent forest fires by being careful with cigarettes, ashes, campfires, sparks as from chainsaws, etc. Smokey NM and the forests of the world Thank You!

So, I have this problem, or a few problems that is. I like to discover trackable. Not so bad, right? Well, the way I do it is the problem. I take lots of pictures of them; pictures at the discovery table at events, of trackables found in the wild, of friends trackables when they show them to me, and so on. Then, I forget about them until there are too many pictures in my phone, and the storage back up stops working. Pictures that may go back a couple of years. Now I have to dump the pictures and log all these trackables. This is me doing that now. Sorry it may have taken so long to log this, or if I repeat a discovery. Maybe it's time to download and learn to use that trackable discovery app. Thanks for sharing your trackable. Hope it's still traveling safely.

Sitting home on a cold, rainy day, and decided to go through my phone and finally discover all the trackables I've taken pictures of over the last year. This is one I either found in a cache, on a person, or at an event, sometime between June 2021 and now. Sorry for the late log, and thanks for sharing!
