L'Original Can of Beans (O.C.B.)
The first geocache was placed on May 3, 2000 in Oregon by Dave Ulmer. The original contents included in the black plastic bucket were software, videos, books, food, money and a slingshot. The food included a can of beans.
The OCB as it is called among geocachers, is the last remaining piece of that original cache. It was unearthed by Team 360 when the original cache tribute plaque was being installed. According to the travel bug page for the OCB, Ulmer was present during the placing of the plaque and confirmed the item as authentic.
The can was quite damaged as it was partially buried and exposed to the weather, it was carefully straightened out and cleaned. It was also treated with rust stopper and UV-resistant polyurethane, the website notes.
Now, the OCB is now trackable and it is taken around to certain events throughout the world so people can see the history. The can is in a clear display case.
We were extremely fortunate to be able to admire the O.C.B. at our first mega in Belgium (Géocoinfest 2017). This is a unique opportunity because in all likelihood, the O.C.B. will not participate in any events after 2019. To commemorate this great moment, we acquired a geocoin sold on site.
We never send our geocoins because they represent a financial investment. Too many geocoins are lost or stolen by collectors or Muggles. On the other hand, we let our real travels bugs travel. We are generally less emotionally attached to it.
Here is a photo of the real geocoin and below the copy. Just because it's a copy doesn't mean we neglect the care of its design. If discovering or moving a copy bothers you, we respect it just as we hope you will respect the work of creating the copy. Thank you very much.

L'Original Can of Beans (O.C.B.)
La première géocache a été placée le 3 mai 2000 dans l'Oregon par Dave Ulmer. Le contenu original inclus dans le conteneur en plastique noir était un CD-Rom, des vidéos, des livres, de la nourriture, de l'argent et un lance-pierre. La nourriture comprenait également une boîte de haricots.
L'OCB, comme on l'appelle chez les géocacheurs, est le dernier élément restant de cette première cache. Elle a été déterrée par Team 360 en présence de Dave Ulmer lors de l'installation de la plaque commémorative originale
La boîte a été très endommagée car elle a été partiellement enfouie et exposée aux intempéries, elle a été soigneusement préservée et nettoyée. Maintenant, il est trackable et exposé dans le monde entier pour que les gens puissent voir cet objet historique. La boîte se trouve dans une vitrine transparente.
Nous avons eu l'extrême chance de pouvoir admirer l'O.C.B. lors de notre premier méga en Belgique (Géocoinfest 2017). C'est une occasion unique car selon toute probabilité, l'O.C.B. ne participera plus à aucun événement après 2019. Pour commémorer ce grand moment, nous avons acquis un géocoin vendu sur place.
Nous n'envoyons jamais nos géocoins parce qu'ils représentent un investissement financier. Trop de géocoins se perdent ou sont volés par des collectionneurs ou des Moldus. Par contre, nous laissons voyager nos vrais travels bugs. Nous y sommes moins généralement attachés émotionnellement.
Voici une photo du géocoin réel et en dessous de la copie. Ce n'est pas parce que c'est une copie que nous négligeons le soin de sa conception.
