What does a mammoth have to do with the letter B, nothing at all. The key ring is a showpiece of one of our team members. She liked the key ring so much that she would like to let it travel around. And the TB with the mammoth as image we bought in 2018 at a Mega event in Hoorn in the Netherlands. So it is a coincidental combination of circumstances.
Wat heeft een mammoet nu met de letter B te maken, helemaal niets. De sleutelhanger is een pronkstuk van een van onze teamleden. Ze vond de sleutelhanger zo mooi dat ze hem graag wil laten rond reizen. En de TB met de mammoet als afbeelding hebben we in 2018 gekocht op een Megaevent in Hoorn in Nederland. Het is dus een toevallige samenloop van omstandigheden.
It is often thought that mammoths were immensely tall, and 'mammoth' has become an indication of 'gigantic', for example in 'mammoth tanker'. This certainly applies to the largest species, but the other mammoths were no bigger than the Asian elephant today. However, they had gigantic tusks, with bulls they could be up to 4 meters long.
Vaak wordt gedacht dat mammoeten immens groot waren, en 'mammoet' is in het Nederlands een aanduiding voor 'gigantisch' geworden, bijvoorbeeld in 'mammoettanker' of 'mammoetwet'. Dit geldt zeker voor de grootste soorten, de keizersmammoet en de Amerikaanse mammoet van Noord-Amerika, maar de andere mammoeten waren niet groter dan de hedendaagse Aziatische olifant. Wel hadden ze gigantische slagtanden, bij stieren konden die wel 4 meter lang zijn.
