About This Item

Whenever I have been fortunate enough to receive a Top Cache coin from Amberel, instead of letting it gather dust at home it has become a custom for me to make it resident within or near to the cache itself. That way, (a) I can remember where the coin is, (b) if finders are interested they can discover the coin for themselves, and (c) it just seems more appropriate to keep the coin with the cache it celebrates.

Well, Amberel was kind enough to send me a coin for my one and only virtual cache, Virgo Virginum. This resulted in a slight dilemma for me: being a virtual cache, there is nowhere to hide the coin!

Then I had an idea.

Why not celebrate a virtual cache with a virtual resident geocoin. It is quite a tricky task to do this justice, but fortunately my elder son is skilled at this sort of thing, so I commissioned him. A few weeks later (delayed by slightly more important matters like A-level exams) he delivered exactly what I was after.

All you have to do is find where the coin is hidden.

Guidance:

  • Do not leave home, and particularly do not go looking in any caves; this is a T1 (or lower) exercise.
  • A rival witch to the one in the main tale may point the way, metaphorically speaking.
  • The path is not especially tricky (perhaps D3-ish).

I think this is my first virtual visit of a virtual TB for a virtual cache. Nicely done render; a skill that I've never had the patience to pursue myself so hats off to elder son for a cracking job.

Stumbled across this quite by accident - the TB page, that is, not the actual coin - that was most definitely deliberate.

It would appear that #1 Son has been getting on with Solidworks blender very well indeed - super stuff and he is now doubtless taking a well earned break from Dad's tyrannical demands by hightailing it up North!

I noticed this coin's virtual drop into its cache at the time it was placed. Not seeing immediately how to discover it I set the problem to one side and promptly forgot about it. Today, for some reason, it jumped into my mind and when I looked I was surprised it had only been a couple of months what it had been off my radar.
I try to make a point of finding all of the owner's Top Cache coins, as well as any others that come to my attention. In other cases that has often involved protracted revisits to excellent underground areas so it was quite nice to have this more leisurely challenge on a Sunday afternoon. It didn't take me too long to reach the brilliantly presented virtual coin (for once, I had been organised in my record keeping). Well-deserved, as always.

What a fantastic method of discovering a trackable. As I often accompany Amberel on the trips that are rewarded with Top Cache coins, I do not get the chance to discover them (unless I re-visit, of course).
