The Amish are a group of traditionalist Christian church fellowships, closely related to but distinct from Mennonite churches, with whom they share Swiss Anabaptist origins. The Amish are known for simple living, plain dress, and reluctance to adopt many conveniences of modern technology.  They use horses and black buggies for transportation.

In the early 18th century, many Amish and Mennonites immigrated to Pennsylvania, most famously to Lancaster County.  However, the Amish have made their home in Ohio since 1808.  The first settlers moved west from Somerset County, in Pennsylvania, to settle the hills and valleys of eastern Ohio.  Ohio is now home to the largest number of Amish congregations.  Amish country consists of Holmes County, where nearly half the county's residents are Amish, plus Tuscarawas, Coshocton, and Wayne counties.

To travel in Ohio’s Amish Country is a treat.  The valleys and rolling hills are picturesque.  The horizons are free of power lines.  The tilled  ground is weedless.  The houses and barns are large, sturdy and immaculate.  The locally-made bread, pastries, potato chips, ice cream, sausage and cheese are outstanding.  This TB is made from a keychain pendant purchased in Walnut Creek.
