Watching the earth, my brother Pollux and I have seen a great many things we wish to experience ourselves. So... we have set out on a little race. From the date of my placement, my brother and I have one year to travel as far and wide as we can. Pollux will be staying with our owner, geocacher, The Keeny, who travels quite a bit. Help me beat my brother!
Once our year is up, a cache will be designated for my return!
My name is Castor. My brother, Pollux (TB589V6) and I were known in Babylonian Mythology as "The Great Twins." There, I went by the name Meshlamtaea, which means "The One who has arisen from the Underworld." In Greek mythology, I was the son of Leda and Tyndareus, the King of Sparta. My brother, was the immortal son of Leda and Zeus. Together, we are known as the Dioscuri, and mythology tells that we were born together from a swan's egg. When I died, my brother Pollux asked that I be allowed to share his immortal life so we might remain together. Since that day, we have resided together in the sky, traversing the earth as Gemini.
Gemini can best be viewed in the night sky in the months of January and February (when the race begins). It is the Zodiac sign for the days of May 21st through June 21st.
The coin itself is representative of the Chinese Zodiac, asigning one of twelve animals to each year. 2012 was the year of the dragon, as was my birth year.
