Meet cachers at the 2019 Great Bisbee Stair Climb
Each year, on the 3rd Saturday in October, Bisbee, Arizona, hosts the Annual
Bisbee 1000, a.k.a. "The Great Stair Climb." October 21, 2018 was the 28th
annual stair climb and my 4th valiant effort. So what is the Annual Bisbee
1000? It is the oldest outdoor stair climb in the world.
The course runs 4.5 mile through the historic Bisbee Arizona. In its'
hey-day Bisbee was the Queen of the Copper Towns. The stair climb was
established as a fund raising event to help restore the stairs that
meandered through the Tombstone Canyon in Bisbee. During the stair climb
you get to climb 9 flights of stairs, with a total of 1,037 steps with 1,499
of your closest friend. I say closest but this year the competitive stair
climbers finished about 1.5 hours ahead of me. No problem, I'm in it for
the Craft Beer Festival at the finish. I got there just as the taps opened.
The overachievers who beat me had to wait to quench their thirsts.
