PLEASE KEEP THIS GEOCOIN MOVING!! It wants to visit Stone Mountain, Georgia, and have it's photo taken there, but it is in no particular hurry. We own this geocoin, but have sent it out into the world so that others can enjoy it, collect its icon and then pass it on to another cache. If you can post a photo of it on its travels, that would be great :-D Discoveries are always welcome. Thanks to all who help our geocoins and TBs!
Another in a series of geocoins, by Hogwildstuff, that recreate various important or scenic benchmarks. Stone Mountain's sculpture, of three Confederate heroes, which mimics Mt. Rushmore (Gutzon Borglum was the original scuptor for Stone Mountain, so it is really Mt. Rushmore that "mimics Stone Mountain), will be controversial for centuries. It was many decades between concept and completion, and by the time it was finished, in 1972, there were many across the country, both North and South, who openly questioned whether such a memorial was appropriate. Fortunately, the benchmark disk (DG2533) shown on this coin was on the mountain long before the idea of carving the granite into human images was conceived.
