It was fun watching a hard working group of players succeed this year.
Most of my biggest heroes were teachers, however. A nun who saw potential in a somewhat lazy student and would not allow him to take the easy road. A man who helped focus teenage curiosity. Professors who helped an ex-soldier use the GI bill to get a degree and beyond. So I'll enjoy watching the Phils this summer but I think Mike Schmidt had it right today when he said this about the Alex Rodriguez situation: "My take on the whole thing is, rather than having an Alex Rodriguez as your hero, or a Roger Clemens as your hero, how about someone fighting in the war in Iraq, or a heart surgeon, or Barack Obama. Why not focus more on people who really matter in this world?"
