The Coin shows the "Klenkes" on the front side, which is a kind of a symbol for the inhabitants of Aachen. It symbolizes the spreaded small finger of the right hand. Aachen was well-known for its cloth industry and therefore also for its needle factories. The workers used their right small finger for examining and sorting the needles. By the time the cloth industry lost ever more its prevailing role in the area of Aachen, but the sign of the Klenkes remained.
