Event is on
Saturday
Goal: To hike the last 30km of the
Blue Mountains section of the Bruce Trail.
The Blue Mountains section is a total of
66km in length.
This is the 13th Bruce Trail hike in this series of BT events.
The total distance of the Blue Mountains section is 66km long and
we will be hiking the last 30km of it to finish this section of the
Bruce Trail.
For future hikes, see the schedule listed at the end of the
event listing. We plan on doing about 2 or 3 hikes a year in order
to complete my goal of finishing the entire Bruce Trail on my 50th
birthday.
I estimate that the entire hike will take about 9 hours to
complete, so we should be done around 6:00pm. This is at a moderate
3.5km\h pace.
If you can't make the entire hike, maybe join us for part of it
atleast. You can always drop out along the way if you feel it's too
difficult or too long.
Meet at 9:00am at the posted
coordinates, which is the 36.0km mark (Edition 26 of Bruce
Trail guide) of the Blue Mountains section of the Bruce Trail
which is along
County Rd 91 where the main trail meets the Duntroon View Side
Trail. We plan to start hiking around 9:15am.
Destination is the 71.5km (66.0km)
mark (Edition 26 of Bruce Trail guide) of the Blue Mountains
section of the Bruce Trail which is at the dead end of Maple Lane
where it meets the Swiss Meadows Side Trail (N44 30.299 W80
19.897).
Parking:
Beginning: There is a parking area (N44
23.334 W80 14.204) on the north side of Country Rd 91 (Duntroon
Sideroad), about 200m past the end point of the hike.
End: There is roadside parking
(N44 30.299 W80 19.897) at the dead end of Maple
Lane in the Swiss Meadows Subdivision. Be careful not to block
driveways.
Hopefully some people will park at the end and carpool back to the
starting point both before and after the hike. It's about a 25 minute drive
from the end point to the start point.
What you should bring: Water and other
drinks. Food for lunch, dinner and snacks. GPS. Maps. Camera. Cell
Phone. First Aid Kit. Advil/Tylenol.
It might be wise to stash some supplies at certain locations of
your choice along the trail so that you don't have to carry
everything with you.
Track our progress as we hike
the trail. Don't feel up for the hike, then join us by watching our
progress as we go along. Screen will update couple of minutes, but
our progress will be updated every hour or so. Thanks to
northerpenguin for setting this up.
