To reach the given coords you’ve to head uphill on the
tourist path marked with blue triangle. Turn right and enter the
woods by the remains of the concrete boulder.
Don’t take the pencils, pens, refills and the maintenance
kit.
The ice cave (Pestera Ghetarul de la Scarisoara):
You can visit the ice cave only at a definite hour and you’ve
to pay. The cave is 720 metres long with a fall of 105 metres but
it’s not allowed to visit the entire cave. The ice in the
cave is 3500 years old with a volume of 75000 m3. The temperature
is low in the cave, around 0°C. There are proper metal steps
leading down into the cave but don’t wear slippery shoes. It
is easier to move in the cave as there are board passages and
handrails. The guide is in Romanian so if you don't understand it
it’s better to remain behind because you can take photos even
with a stand camera (which is better in that lightless place). The
tour takes 45-50 mins.
The opening hours of the cave:
9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and at the weekend 10 a.m. – 6
p.m.
The tours start off at 9:00, 10:20, 11:40, 13:00, 14:20, 15:40,
17:00 each day. The admission is 5 lei. You can use euros as well
but they’ll give you change in RON.
There's a pension nearby (Pensiunea Scarisoara), the kind owner is
called Dinu.
