Presumed Dead, Part III: The Rising Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lostboy1966: It's been three years since I released these hides, and the elements were getting to the containers. Part I: Crossed Paths had sprung a leak which washed out the story notes. Part II: Libri Pestis had been reported missing, but the 'ol Book Of Plagues was still there, though a bit gnawed on by assorted bad critters with a taste for styrofoam. The final stage, The Rising, was kind of sad to take out of service. I had good memories of hiking this container in - thankfully nobody passed me on the trail that day when I was carrying a bag that had the suspicious shape of a human torso! [:o)]

Gustav Oremor (BTW that's Romero spelled backwards, as in George Romero) was a little beat up, but not in bad shape at all considering his three years sitting in the woods. For this trip I spared him the indignity of a bag, and hiked him out uncovered for all the world to see. Nobody did though - probably for the best.

So one of my favorite hide series bids farewell. My sincere thanks to everyone who took the time to hunt them and leave all those great logs. If you had half as much fun looking for these as I did putting them out, then I'd say it was worth it.

Now, what to do with this Ammo Box I need to recycle? Hmmmm....

Greg

Geocache Description:

Part three of a three-cache Series. Header coordinates are for parking only. In order to find the missing coordinates for this cache, you must first complete Presumed Dead, Part II: Libri Pestis. Please do not post spoilers in your logs.

What have you gotten yourself into? Your destiny now seems to be hopelessly intertwined with the insane machinations of Gustav Oremor. Sleep is something that you avoid now, as doing so brings nightmarish visions of what will happen if you do not follow through with the mission that you are confronted with.

Of course, you could be wrong. After all, how could this plot be possible? Your logical mind insists that what you have learned can't be real, yet your gut tells you that this is not the result of an over-active imagination. What to do? Going to the authorities is out of the question at this point; they'd never believe you.

Who would think that the fate of the world could rest in the determination of a common Geocacher such as yourself? This just may be the ultimate, selfless example of CITO.

Provided you live to brag about it, that is...

With a trepidation that you have never felt, you pick up your trusty GPSr. It knows where to lead you.

Time to find Oremor, before it is too late!

Cache Notes:
The cache can be found at N41 17.XXX W073 24.XXX. The missing coordinates can be found by first completing Presumed Dead, Part II: Libri Pestis
Container is a 30-cal Ammo Box concealed under a themed cover. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd to find prizes are brass compasses in wooden boxes. Round trip from parking should be a bit over a mile.
Approach Addendum:
Heading in via the wide Raccoon Lane, watch for a hidden right-hand turn onto a blue-blazed trail shortly after some planks across a streambed. This trail is poorly maintained and will require some patience to follow, but leads you along a nice stream and within 150’ or so of the cache. As an alternate route (resisting the urge to bushwhack), go farther North along Raccoon Lane to a main trail intersection, and loop right back towards the final.

Parking Tips:
Header coordinates are for a small parking lot on Fox Run Road in Redding.
