Arrr! Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Evanspack: After talking to another cacher, this cache will have to be archived. There is a BMX Bike Trail running right thru GZ and there is no way this cache can remain at its current location. I will free up this space for another fabulous hide at Iron Hill.

Geocache Description:

Ahoy, me buckos!  Come search for a pirate's cache in a pirate place.

Pirate lore abounds in Delaware history.  Blackbeard, Capt. Kidd, Calico Jack, Stede Bonnet, Dr. John Bowman, Capt. Henry "Long Ben" Avery, Anne Bonney, Capt. Richard Worley, and many others-- all have sailed the waters of Delaware.

The border-contested strip of land knows as "The Wedge", the northwest corner of land bordering on Pennsylvania and Maryland, provided a lawless haven for pirates, criminals, and hiding place for ill-gotten gains.  The reputation of the land led to bountiful rumors of hidden treasure yet to be discovered.

One such rumor is of Purgatory Woods, where John Gillian of Capt. Kidd's crew may have been sent to bury a chest full of his treasure.  While some claim Kelly Island is the place, others say it was close to The Wedge, somewhere between Cooche's Bridge and Newark.  Could it be that somewhere in the area now known to us as Iron Hill Park lies a vast treasure of Capt. Kidd, buried for these many years?  Could be, but this cache will be much easier to find.

Don’t forget, September 19th is “ International Talk Like A Pirate Day”, so practice up!
