If Jacobs Creek is known for anything in the area, it is its prime
swimming holes.
Green Rock is a nice swimming hole, named for a large rock on the
edge of the creek swimmers frequently jump off of. The rock is
gray, so forever will it be a mystery to the origin of the
name.
Green Rock, however not as deep as Crick Falls, is a popular place
because getting there is not at all a challenge. There's is a
"natural" dam, from a rock that doesn't erode in the creek, making
a nice wading pool, and down stream 100 feet is a deeper area.
Along with swimming, a lot of whitewater kayakers travel this
stretch in the springtime. It's a set of Class I-III rapids from
Chaintown to the Youghiogheny in the springtime. For kayakers,
there is a place to eddy off, pull out, find the cache and finish
off the last 3/4 mile of the run. However, kayaking would be
extremely hard to accomplish in spring. It would be best to
check the stream gauge before trying to put in up near
Chaintown.
Now, this cache I admit is easy, but there is a twist! The
trick is you have to cross the creek, to get to the cache. Making
this a park and grab, with a Fayette Cong twist.
Good luck! The cache is small to accomodate the neat hiding spot,
but it's not a micro, however you may want to bring your own
writing utensil. The one inside will suffice, but in winter the
lead may freeze and become hard to write with.
And, lastly, I would very much imagine that in the January-March
time frame, this cache may become a 4.5/5 star, due to it's
location near the creek.
You almost don't even need to take 5 steps up the hill from the
creek to find this cache, so if you go any higher, you have gone
too far!
