A short walk around the redeveloped canal basin.
Sheffield Canal Basin is at the head of the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal. The basin dates from 1814, when the canal opened to connect with the River Don, allowing canal boats to reach the heart of Sheffield for the first time.
As rail and road became more popular modes of transport trade dropped off and the canal and warehouses became dilapidated.
The area was given a new lease of life in the 1990s, including restoration of the grade II listed buildings such as the Grain and Terminal warehouses, the Wharf house and the Straddle.
