Thames Path - Boating at Blue Coat 

A straightforward multicache set in and around the beautiful village of Sonning, Berkshire.

Recommended parking is in Sonning Lane at the above coordinates, where there is permitted kerbside parking for around a dozen vehicles.  The route will take you down the High Street, past the 16th Century Bull Inn, and through St.Andrew's churchyard to the Thames Path.  You will pass Sonning Lock.

Dick Turpin’s aunt once lived in the cottage here, known as “Turpins”.
Now blocked up, there was once a conveniently placed loose box for a horse below it. After one of his “hold-ups” on the Bath Road, Dick would make haste for this convenient hide-out. On entering the village, he would jump down off Black Bess and run into his aunt’s house, while his well trained mare made her way down a ramp to her underground stable. Out through the back door, Dick would take a short cut to the churchyard and over the bridge into Oxfordshire.

Walk a little further North to the lychgate.  What date was it erected? = ABCD

Now walk back to the corner, turn left and left again, down the High Street.

Here you will see a pump given to the residents of Sonning by Robert Palmer, who represented Berkshire in the House of Commons in 1825.  

What date is shown on the pump? (convert from Roman to Cardinal number) = EFGH

Now walk west down the lane past the Bull Inn, and into the St.Andrew's church yard.

Take a seat where something was lost and then found, then look behind you.  What date can you see? = JKLM

Head north west through the church yard to the Thames Path. The cache is a screwtop specimen container, apx the same size as a 35mm film canister, containing just the log and pencil.  As this can be a busy spot please, be covert when retrieving and replacing.
