Note: This cache was placed to be Firth of Forth's thousandth cache find. The box for the first find was a special one for the occasion and has now reverted to a regular small lock'n'lock box with a rather more usual assortment of things to trade.
Baro or Bara (as it's spelled on the OS Map and as it appears in the Parish name "Garvald and Bara") was once a separate community with its own church and graveyard. About 1700 part of the roof of the ancient church collapsed. The population of the hamlet was in some decline and the Presbytery decided not to repair the church but to unite the parish with adjoining Garvald.
Baro Loch is an artificial lake formed by damming the burn at the eastern end, along the same lines as Pressmennan Lake (see GCVBAV and GCVE76 ). The loch is set in ornamental woods, with a fine variety of trees.
