Indiana Geones and the Traveling Tiki Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lostboy1966: The container was in surprisingly good shape, but had been melted just enough so that it would not seal properly. Tick me off – I spent hours building that thing.

I saw bits of swag strewn around with the beer cans. This was such a pristine little spot when I found it. It’s trashed now. I hiked out with the container and a backpack full of cans. There’s still more out there.

What a shame. [:(!][V]

Indiana Geones, stalwart studier of stupid statues, is off on yet another epic quest!

While examining a stack of musty old scrolls, Professor Geones learned of the legendary Polynesian adventurer Pakupangetgoin. Ever curious to discover new lands, Pakupangetgoin set off in his outrigger canoe in a quest to explore the world. In an epic trek, he traveled from his home island in the Pacific, rounded South America at Cape Horn, and followed the Atlantic coastline for thousands of miles north to present-day Connecticut.

Even more amazing than the scope of this journey was the fact that Pakupangetgoin did so with almost no supplies – some dried fish, a thermos full of Mai-Tais, and his lucky Tiki Idol that was purchased from the guy that would eventually design the famed Easter Island statues.

When Professor Geones revealed these findings to a roomful of his colleagues he was openly mocked by a clique of Evil Archaeologists (sitting in the back row, as usual), who refused to believe that such a feat was possible. When the thugs started tossing rotten tomatoes at him, Indiana was forced to flee the meeting in humiliation.

Back in his study, Indiana tried to come up with a way to prove that his interpretation of Pakupangetgoin’s journey was correct. Of course…the Tiki! If the statue could be recovered, then Indiana Geones could yet again foil his treacherous foes!

Posting the bizarre runes that Pakupangetgoin used to record the location of his lucky idol on this website, Professor Geones is counting on you to help him discover the hiding place of:

Cache Notes:
The container was placed around 2PM, during a torrential downpour. (Not that I’m obsessive or anything.) As a result, it was difficult to get a decent sat lock. I took over a dozen readings and averaged them out for the cache location, but just in case I’ve added a fairly detailed hint. The container is Tupperware-type, slightly smaller than an ammo box. Please be sure to give the lid a good press to assure a tight seal when you are finished logging in. The hike from parking to the cache is about .3 mile, and the terrain rating has the potential to vary greatly, depending upon the approach you take.

The $10 cash prize I intended to leave as a FTF was forgotten in my Jeep (not the first time I've done so..I'm Inept!), so the lucky individual gets an IOU at the next Event I can meet them at! Regardless, the cache is stuffed with assorted goodies that any Geocacher should find useful.

Cathedral In The Pines is about .25 mile from this hide in the same preserve, and Mini Multi In A Marsh is a short drive away. Both are highly recommended side trips.

Enjoy!
