You’ll need a canoe or kayak for this cache located on Eagle Lake
in Holden. You will find parking at these coordinates: N 42 21.475,
W071 53.064. You can put in at the beach. Holden Recreation Passes
are required should you choose to use the beach for swimming; they
are $5 per resident or $10 for folks from out of Holden. They are
not required for canoeing and kayaking.
The area to the west of the lake is Eagle Lake Wildlife
Sanctuary. Its 175 acres of woodland are home to hundreds of
species, including fishers, pileated woodpeckers, river otters,
barred owls, muskrats, and many types of waterfowl. A three-mile
marked trail loops through forests of oak, pine, and hemlock and
skirts meandering Asnebumskit Brook. See if you can tell where the
brook empties into the lake..
The Mom in me reminds you to bring your PFD, sunscreen and
water!!
There is no need to get out of your canoe or kayak at the cache
site. Please be careful to keep it dry and please place it back
just how you found it. And don't forget to bring a pen or pencil.
The cache container is too small to fit one in. Thanks!
