Geocache Description:

In the middle of a pleasant park you can find the ruins of a renaissance summer palace of Bishop Szathmári Géza . This was a U shape one store building. On the south side between the wings of the building there was a yard which ended in a high stone fence. A tower also connected to the palace. In 1543 the Turkish occupied the palace and changed for their needs, they made a dervish cloister. Most probably the name of the whole area comes from these times as “tekke” word means cloister in Turkish language. The building was intact in 1686 at the time of liberation but at the end of XVIII century it was already uninhabited and became a ruin soon. In 1847-48 the city of Pécs gave permission for demolition but thanks for the high price of demolishing the ruins are still there. There is a nice playground under the ruins. It is worth to visit the Pintér garden where you can see some rare plants. I wish you successful hunting!
