This cache is part of a series of GeoCaches that will introduce
you to some of the Amateur Radio Repeaters around Ontario.
If you are an amateur radio operator, each cache contains the
callsign and frequency of a repeater that can be heard from the
cache area, so you can chat with some of the local hams on your way
back to the car, or on your way to the next cache.
There is a code word and repeater call sign on the first page of
the log book. Save this information if you want to go for the final
later.
The Sioux Narrows
repeater is owned and operated by the Lake of the Woods Amateur
Radio Society. It is located on a Bell Canada tower 2 miles
southeast of Sioux Narrows. The repeater is part of the Pine Tree
Intertie System, the west link is to Kenora, the south link is to
Black Hawk and the east link is to Dryden. It operates on 2m
(145.170-) and is located at N 49 23.76,
W 94 02.09.

This cache is located about 4km north (as the crow flies) of the
Sioux Narrows repeater. It is located on the northwest side of
Provincial Highway 71. The cache is not far from the highway but
the terrain is a bit difficult. The easiest approach is to follow
the faint animal trail at the trail head coordinates. It will lead
along a rather steep bank that drops off toward the lake. Moss and
other ground cover is layered on rocky ground which may make
conditions slippery when wet, be careful.
The cache container is a disguised ammo can. The cache includes
a special FTF gift for the first finder. In addition to the
obligatory log book, pen, pencil and cache information sheet it
also contains the following trade items:
- Wooden train engine
- Maglite belt pouch
- Canvas bag of bearing balls
- Fancy pen
