Geocache Description:

A flat water cruise on Morro Bay with great views and often wildlife. Some advanced GPS and compass skills are required.

The coordinates are the reference point for the start of your floating trip. This is an area where people launch their personal watercraft (kayaks, canoes). Rental boats are available at this site as well as in the city of Morro Bay. It is necessary to boat into the cache but you may launch from any public access site.

The micro cache is to be found 2.43 miles from the reference point on a course bearing 196 degrees (I used a hand held magnetic compass for this measurement) [Note: GPS users have used a bearing of 210 degrees]. Travel only around high tide, so consult a tide table before shoving off. You will pass near the sand spit so watch for wildlife. Much of the spit is closed from April through September due to nesting of the snowy plover. Obey all signs if you decide to beach.

Wind and wave action on Morro Bay is to be expected. It is your responsibility to understand your abilities and use good judgment and water safety precautions. Understand your GPS and compass headings. I recommend determining your destination before heading out, this may save much time and aggrevation.

The cache is in an infant juice container which holds a log and pencil only. The cache is accessible from your boat. There is no need to stand in the water or mud, or disturb fragile shore line.

Hints are available below in order of degrees. The last will allow you to solve the puzzle. Review the solution only if you are stumped. Again, try to solve this before you get in the water.

Please note: Morro Bay has a dynamic topography. Sand is constantly moving. I recommend a 5 foot high tide for a kayak and a 4 foot minimum for canoes.
