The cache container is a camo'd tobacco can with logbook,
pencil
and sharpener. It contains info cards on the Petitcodiac river
and
the aboriginal peoples of the region. Feel free to take one,
no
trade needed for them, that's why there's multiple copies. This
is
a theme cache, please trade with that in mind. There are some
modern arrow components, themed key chains and an interesting
TB
that sparked the idea of this cache.
Find a cairn erected many years ago to mark a local portage used
by the Aboriginal people as
well as European settlers on the North side of the Homestead
road. Park at N45 57.259 W65 10.079 to access the historic
site.
Proceed on foot to the Cairn, The cairn was placed here many
years ago as many were placed around the province to honor places
and people, many of them in front yards now. Take the time to
find them and find out more about them, that's why they are
there.
Take a SEED waypoint while
standing directly in front of it (arms length should work ok), and
calculate a new
waypoint using data from the plaque and neighboring civic
addresses.
NORTH Coordinate
calculation:
Take the civic address from the house directly behind the
monument. Using only the first two digits, subtract 4.
Precede this with a "0" and replace the last 3 digits of the North
coordinate with your answer..
N45 AB.0( first 2 digits of civic address - 4 )
West Coordinate
calculation:
From the plaque on the cairn, take the the year the monument was
dedicated. Using only the last two digits, add 139.
Replace the last 3 digits of the West coordinate with your
answer..
W065 XY.(last 2 digit of year placed + 139 )
