"Drive up this coast road at your leisure
And here's a hint to find the treasure.
From the cache site you can see
Through the window to the sea!"
Glenarm is the first (or the last depending upon
what direction you are travelling!) of the nine Glens of Antrim.
"Glenarm" means "The Glen of the Army".
This cache reflects a two hundred year old local
legend concerning a young woman who was tragically drowned in
Glenarm Bay. Her sweetheart was so deeply shocked when he heard the
news that he lost his mind and for the remainder of his life stood
gazing through the window at the sea waiting for his love
to return.
The actual "Madman's Window" referred to in the title is the
remains of a limestone sea stack, the blocks of white stone forming
a "window" looking out to sea.
Park in the car park and take care on the road. A rough trail
starts at N54 57.929 W005 55.562 and heads southwards up the hill
towards the cache. The cache is a 220x150x70 mm tab lock box.
Try to avoid walking on the primroses which may be easily missed
when they are not in bloom.
