This cache is not accesible at high
tide.You MUST check the tide tables (see Users Web Page link at the
top of the page) Do not attempt this cache within 2 1/2-3hrs of
high tide - as you will either not be able to access it or you will
be cut off in the cove that the cache is located. A torch may be
useful too.
Cove Haven was once a refuge for smugglers. Within it lies the
Masons' Cave, so called because St Thomas Lodge met in it annually
on St John's Day for the admission of members. This is recorded in
the Old Statistical Account of Scotland (ca. 1790) when Rev. Aitkin
notes that 'The Mason Lodge of Arbroath built a gate to it, and
gave it a door many years ago.'

Above the cave are the remains of an ancient fort known as the
Maiden Castle.
Make sure you look for all the carvings on the walls close to the
cache. Also there is a "sink" on the left hand wall.(going in)

In the cache box you will find a Rubber Stamp and an Ink Pad
These are the signature for this cache. Please take an imprint of
the stamp for yourself if you wish to collect them in your own
personal notebook. Then leave an imprint of your own personal stamp
in the cache log book (if you have one), or simply sign as a
traditional log book.
Stamp and Ink remains part of the cache but it might be an
idea to carry your own Ink Pad in case the one provided should dry
up.
