Geocache Description:

Tomlinson Run Park is very rich with local history. There were several mill sites within the park boundaries and this cache will introduce you to one of them.

Please park at the following coordinates N 40 32.890 W 080 35.756 and begin your adventure by walking up the right side of the stream. At the above posted coordinates you will be looking for a large flat sandstone boulder on the shoreline with a notch cut out of it on the stream side. This is where one end of a dam was once resting. Look on the other side of the stream and you will see several moss covered sandstone blocks where the other side of the dam was tethered. If the water is running low, you can also see the bedrocks on the bottom. The first stage is about 15' W of that notch. (Toward the hillside.)On the way back to your vehicle, (and also to the final stage,) if you look to your left against the base of the hill, you will see 4 large depressions dug out at the base of the hillside. These depressions appear to be the entrances of the tunnel through the hillside that lead to the woolen mill waterwheel, which was near where your treasure will be found. Go back across the road and you will see a green gate at the entrance for the Boy Scout camping area. Follow the road and your GPS’r around and through the camp area. At the far side, look for an old broken hand water pump. If you turn and face the hillside with the road up above, you will see a large depression in the ground on your right with a spring above and on the right side of it. Walk up towards the spring and you will see the sandstone-lined outlet for the tunnel that came through the hillside. This is where the water gushed from to turn the waterwheel at the mill. You can still see the depression where the large wheel went down below ground level. And if you walk around the right side down towards the stream, you can also see the sandstone lined tunnel exit where the runoff was directed towards the stream. Your treasure is nearby.
