Brighton CITO Event Cache In Trash Out Event

This cache has been archived.

Flowery: It looks like everyone who was going to log this one has done so and all the TBs were picked up. Thanks again to everyone who attended and helped out. We got a nice photo in the paper! Archiving event listing.

Geocache Description:

A CITO clean-up on April 22 at the Brighton Town Park in Gabriels, a heavily used local park in need of a cleanup.

Because the Town of Brighton (which includes Paul Smiths, Gabriels, Rainbow Lake and McCollums) has very little permanent staff, a cleanup at the park would be extremely helpful. The park includes a playground, pavilion, field house, baseketball court/ice rink, and a large baseball field, as well as other open space area. The park is used for private parties, rugby games, baseball leagues, and by the local children and residents.

The event will start at noon and run until 3:00 pm. Participants are welcome to attend for part or all of the time. The bulk of the CITO efforts will be targeted at cleaning up garbage in and around the more heavily used parts of the park, and as time permits we will extend our efforts to cleaning trash from the woods around the park boundary.

Participants are expected to provide their own lunches, but we will have some snacks and drinks available. People should plan on wearing clothes that can get dirty and bringing their own work gloves if you have them.

Although this is primarily a cleanup event, we will be placing a couple of temporary caches in the park for those who would like to try their hand. I'll be setting out a cache log at the given coordinates so we know who came. Please log a "Will Attend" on this page ASAP, so that we have a better idea of how many participants to expect for planning purposes.

Non-geocachers and novice geocachers are encouraged to attend and participate in the cleanup. There will be some experienced geocachers on hand to answer questions, and take you out on a hunt if you wish. There are several other existing caches in the nearby area and we will provide a list of these caches at the event in case anyone wants to do any additional caching before or after the cleanup. It was one year ago that our family became hooked on geocaching at a CITO event, so holding our own is our way of giving back and saying thanks! See you there!
