Den här villan
uppfördes i början av 1870-talet och köptes snart av
den s k "korkkungen" Carl August Wicander, som i sin tur lät
bygga om den till dess nuvarande utseende. Wicanders korkimperium
växte och bredde så småningom ut sig
Östersjön runt; i Finland, Baltikum och Ryssland.
Wicander blev sedermera så rik att han köpte, renoverade
och donerade
Harpsund till regeringen.
Inte illa jobbat, med
tanke på att naturkork förstör 2-8 procent av allt
vin som säljs i flaskor (tack vare den så kallade
korksjukan), medan plastkork och skruvkapsyler inte
påverkar vinet för fem öre.
Som en hyllning till den
listige Wicander ligger det en vinkork i cachen!
In English: This Villa was built in the 1870s and the so called
cork-king, C A Wicander, bought it and let rebuild it to what it
looks like today. The cork empire of Wicander extended round the
Baltic Sea, in Finland, Russia and the Baltic states and the owner
became so rich that he could afford to buy, restore and donate the
manor of Harpsund to the Swedish government.
Not bad, if you consider the fact that cork destroys 2-8
per cent of all bottled wine (due to the so called cork
disease)...unlike screw capsules and plastic corks - that
don't affect the wine at
all.
As an homage to the
cunning Wicander there is a wine cork in the
cache.
