Non loin du bord de Seine, sur les hauteurs existe un ancien phare qui n’est plus utilisé depuis l’avènement de l’électricité. Not far from the edge of Seine, on the heights exists a former lighthouse. It was not used since the arrival of the electricity.
C’était le père de mon arrière grand-père Auguste Legendre qui tenait ce phare. Il habitait dans une des maisons toute proche du phare. Ce phare permettait de guider les bateaux remontant la Seine vers Rouen ou redescendant vers l’estuaire. En effet même si la seine parait large, le chenal d’accès lui, est beaucoup plus étroit. Mais avec l’arrivée de l’électricité, le phare du Courval a été remplacé par un phare plus gros et surtout plus moderne. Son remplaçant a “les pieds” dans l’eau... It was the father of my back grandfather Auguste Legendre who held this lighthouse. He lived in one of the houses quite close to the lighthouse. This lighthouse led boats going up the Seine towards Rouen or coming down towards the estuary. Even if the Seine seems wide, the channel of access is much more narrow. But with the arrival of the electricity, the lighthouse of Courval was replaced by a bigger lighthouse and especially more modern. Its replacement has "the feet " in the water …
