Geocache Description:

Coming back down the hill from Mallory's Cache, I couldn't resist this made-to-order hiding spot, right at the crossroads of Lafayette and Buckeye trails. The views to both the East and West are quite impressive from here - we placed the cache just before sunset, pink skies with a full moon over Mt. Diablo.

Dingo and I took advantage of the daylight following today's EBRPD Board Meeting to do some caching. Just prior to the meeting, we had found Cache Maker, Cache Maker, and grabbed a container. Having spent time with Bucky and the Geo-Baby, it seemed apropos to finally tackle the ridge (again) and find Mallory's cache.

There are several routes to this spot - but don't believe TeamAlamo if he tells you there's a "flat trail". My approach was just under a mile, with about 500' of elevation gain. With every switchback I thought "This must be the crest of the ridge, right...?" - but it never was.

I finally made it to the crossroads, and noticed an interesting spot as Dingo and I passed by on our way to the cache. Coming back down, admiring the views, I decided to deploy this cache, still wearing my "visitor" name tag from the board meeting -- which somehow made the day feel "complete".

Cache is a small tupperware with stash note affixed to the top lid. I didn't have a lot of swag with me, so the initial contents are a bit lean - but enough the fill the container.
  • log in baggie
  • Gotwake thermometer-compass #1228
  • Gotwake camo carabiner #2229
  • Bert the Goat TB recently brought back from Whistler, BC
  • Blucruz's USA Geocoin
*Didn't have a writing implement to fit the container, so bring your own.

The approach is primarily on fire trails, with a game trail leading the last 50' or so to this easy find. Enjoy all the caches, amazing views, and cardiovascular benefit the ridge has to offer!
