Geocache Description:

Short, easy fell walk with panoramic views.

Despite the name High Rigg is a long, low grassy ridge which seperates the A591 Ambleside Road from the quieter B5322 through St John's in the Vale. It affords excellent views of Helvelyn, Thirlmere, Skiddaw, Blencathra and Bassenthwaite Lake in the distance.

Parking is available at the Southern tip of High Rigg at the National Trust car park or you could perhaps combine the walk with the nearby Tewet Tarn cache if approaching from the north. There is also a regular bus service, the 555, which stops nearby. The climb to the top is fairly steep, the well defined path passes through a beautiful patch of old scots pine and oak woodland and once you are at the top it levels off, the far end of the fell is visible in the distance with Skiddaw looming beyond.

Even though this is a relatively easy walk it is still worth remembering to take adequate kit - the weather can take a turn for the worse in a matter of minutes.
