Liven up
your second Monday of December with a Holiday GeoFest in the
WARM auditorium inside the Fairbanks Noel Wien Library.
You'll hear an update on designs for a 2006 Alaska Geocoin
and formation of a statewide geocaching organization and
indulge in some holiday geofestivities.
Bring a wrapped inexpensive (under $10) cache swag
item or cache container for a Chinese gift
exchange. Best of all, meet geo-friends old and new in a
relaxed and mellow setting - near two of Fairbanks's newest caches!
Log your intention to attend now... where else could you have this
much fun on a Monday night during the holidays? And of course -
kids are welcome - this is a game the whole family can
play!
A few designs for
the 2006 Alaska geocion have been developed and will be shared at
the Event. If you have thoughts about what you would like to see on
the coin, please bring them to the event or e-mail them to Ladybug
Kids. We'll take sketches, PhotoShop files, jpegs, you name it!!!
We'd like to finalize the design soon so we can have the coins in
hand by April's CITO Event.
Also, we're
looking for a few good people to serve on an Alaska geocaching
organization steering committee. As noted in the logs of last
August's "Calling All Alaska Cachers!" Event Cache, we are creating
a loose-knit state organization that can handle land access issues
in a consistent manner and help coordinate the efforts of local
cachers on fun things like geocoin designs and event caches. No
dues, no new rules, just a little structure to help keep the game
healthy in Alaska.
Please think about
if you'd like to serve. Ideally one or two people (a primary plus a
back-up) per region like SE, Valdez/PWS, Kenai Peninsula, ANC,
Interior, MatSu, etc. are needed. If you can't attend the event,
please e-mail your interest to Ladybug Kids. Also think about a
name. So far, "Geocache Alaska!!! (GAK!!!), Greatland Caching
Association (GLCA), Geocachers Love Caching Alaska (GLCA), have
been offered up as possibilites. The "Crazy Moose" logo of the
Alaska Cache and Dash has been proposed as the organization's
logo/mascot, but bring your ideas as well.
